Lunatic Fringe

Lunatic Fringe
I know you’re out there
You’re in hiding
And you hold your meetings
We can hear you coming
We know what you’re after
We’re wise to you this time
We won’t let you kill the laughterLunatic Fringe
In the twilight’s last gleaming
This is open season
But you won’t get too far
We know you’ve got to blame someone
For your own confusion
But we’re on guard this timeAgainst your final solution

Lyrics Lunatic Fringe ~ Tom Cochrane & Red Rider

I won’t bore you with Fact’s and statistics. They mean little in this new age of political lunacy. Hell I wont fact check a single statement I make to you today, simply out of curiosity of how it must feel to be Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh. Both mouthpieces for the Right wing agenda.

As a matter of fact I may simply make things up as I go along (kind of like Glenn’s statement the Jews killed Jesus) it wont matter a bit, for much like Glenn I am a fiction writer! Oh sure Glenn’s book Overton Window is a bestseller, mine is not yet published. But let’s not let that spoil my story here shall we?

Speaking of lunacy and fiction, Mr. Beck is rewriting history and certain sections of the bible as I foolishly type this for my miniscule audience.

Hell for only $6.26 per month, you can become what Glenn likes to call an EXTREME insider. This allows you within the hollowed halls of the newly launched Beck University. In this virtual institution, Glenn & friends are restoring honor, liberty, and pride in America. http://www.facebook.com/?sk=messages#!/GlennBeck?ref=ts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3J_QLtYqlk

But Lets not overlook the other benefits of becoming an Extreme Insider; you can purchase discounted tickets to the American Revival tour, or the Bold and Fresh tour featuring Bill O’Reilly. Sounds more like a feminine hygiene product than a plan to revive the country.

Especially when you consider there is nothing either bold or fresh in the content.

“Tax cuts & Patriotism” are the buzzwords most often used. It seems to me those are the same “Bold & Fresh” idea’s being promoted by the Tea Party. And the same old rhetoric we enjoyed for 8 years of the last administration. Those “Bold & Fresh” ideas led to a “Gazillion, Majillion “dollar deficit for the country (I warned you I might lie) and two wars where we took Liberty to both the Afghan and Iraqi people. (They seem less than thankful) nothing new there folks.

Fact: the Republican Party inherited a budget surplus from the Clinton administration. They instituted tax cuts and deregulation of many industries, and proceeded over an 8 year period to run up the massive deficit, and nearly caused a financial collapse of our economy. Unemployment sits at a staggering 10%. 50 million Americans remain unemployed, and Republicans want to withhold extending benefits. Or as a Tea Party representative pointed out, “our unemployed are simply spoiled”.http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=966

But this story is not about picking on Glenn Beck. The Republicans or Fox news. Far from it, I support creative fiction writers and entertainers. I admire the money machine Glenn & friends have crafted during a time of turmoil for the minority party.  Actually I support capitalism. No folks this story is about the fragmented and lunatic fringe of our political system.

This last week brought the increasingly ugly and hatred filled tone of politics to a crescendo. The “Tea Party” and the “NAACP”. Instead of taking the opportunity to decry racism and set the tone for debate, the mouthpieces of the Tea Party escalated the hatred and rhetoric with their actions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRU1pjqQpP0  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWoeI-dQXJ0

The majority doesn’t buy the “Tea Party”. Really is that the best you can do? Look folks if you’re going to sell “Bold & Fresh” you need to enhance it with something. You can’t even control it! We know the Tea Party is a hybrid of the Republican Party, and a damn poor one at that.

Dear Tea party, please let me explain why your name “Tea Party” makes no sense. The cause of the Boston tea party was taxation without representation. Laws governing us were passed in British parliment. In America, we’re a constitutional republic you have the same vote and representation as every other citizen. If you don’t get your way, it’s because America doesn’t want your way. It’s called democracy.I fail to see how a fragmented Republican party with out of control leaders and no new idea’s can be better than the present administration.

Can anyone explain to me how these fine folks are better for the country ? Have you listened to the speeches given by Sarah Palin, Sharon Angle, Rand Paul, Mark Williams, etal:?

I know Paul Revere, Ben Franklin, John Adams,  John Hancock, and these folks do not measure up. “Sorry you sir, are no Paul Revere”.( pardon the cheesy Lloyd Bentsen reference) Patriot is the last word that comes to mind.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-7gpgXNWYI

Perhaps the plan was never explained to some of us? Was the idea to have the Republicans become the party of obstruction. Grinding government to a halt, holding legislation hostage for pork and concessions to futher their diabolical agenda to ruin the country ( my own conspiracy theory) lobby for the very industry and institutions you swore to protect us from. Slander and lie at every turn, then apologize to a forgien corporation that causes the single largest ecological disaster in history.,only to have the party reemerge as the “Tea Party?”   Having witnessed the foolish self destruction this week., I suppose not..Sadly I conclude much like your plan for America it is non exsistant.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4elLeTY8Mwo

I will point out what you have managed to accomplish with your hatred, bigotry & lie’s.

You have done a fine job of turning away millions of folks just like me, “The Independent Voter”.

Like it or not we now are in numbers sufficient enough to decide elections. We may just be savvy enough to not fall for the new improved “Bold & Fresh” with antioxidants and beta-carotene you are now repackaging and trying to sell us.

You have greatly underestimated the intelligence of the American public.

  1. We can only hope that they “have greatly underestimated the intelligence of the American public” I remain skeptical as to that…

  2. Right on! I’m going to go out on a limb here and I think this is your best piece. Might just be the timing. Thank GOD I’ve got two brain cells that see through the “madness”. You have keen insight and express it in print exactly the way it is.
